First Impression Is NOT The Last Impression!
Will first impression be the last?
A first impression is your first thought about someone or
something. I see people around me blindly believing the quote “first impression
is the last impression”. But is it so? No, I don’t think so. How many times
does it happen that who made a good first impression stays the good guy for a
lifetime or who made a bad one stays the bad guy. Never! It doesn’t work this
way. With time people change and time brings the good and the worst in us.
First impression, according to me, is one’s judgement about
someone according to his or her personality and appearance in the first meeting
itself. But do you think everyone would show you his or her true colors in the
first meeting? No, it isn’t so. Every individual is different and it takes
time to understand someone. The predicted personality cannot always be the
concluded one. Our actions, opinions and mannerisms leave an impression on the
people around us. And these can’t be judged in the very first introduction. It
happened a number of times that I judged a person wrong. Who used to be the one
I hated became my best pal and who used to be the closest to me turned into a
big disappointment.
We all try to make a lasting first impression but if we
don’t succeed, then do we sit hopeless? No, we grab every opportunity we get to
make it right. We can change people’s perspectives about ourselves by improving
our work and rectifying our mistakes. A student might not write his best paper
in the first attempt but the second nicely written paper is not judged on the
basis of the first one. An actor’s debutant film might not be liked but his
good performance in next film is not defamed because of the first one.
Yes, first impressions are important but they certainly are
not the last impressions. It’s we who choose to leave erroneous or mesmerizing
impression on others and our actions point in the same direction. What left you
soothed in the first impression will remain the pacifier for a lifetime is a
wrong judgement. Water when flowing in a peaceful sea is calming but the same
water when flowing as a flood is catastrophic. Everything and everyone has
different prospective at different time. Before getting completely convinced
about a certain impression of someone or something, we should give it enough
time. So now on a concluding note, I’d like to repeat that first impression is
NOT the last impression.
